Sunday Excursion to the Scottish Crannog Centre

An excursion to the Scottish Crannog Centre on Loch Tay is planned for Sunday 16th November 2008. Loch Tay is about a two hour drive from Edinburgh and delegates will be taken there in a coach booked for the occasion. In order to cover the costs of the trip (hire of a coach and admission to the Crannog Centre) a charge of £17.00 will be made. Delegates who indicate an interest in the excursion on their application form can pay for the excursion on arrival for the conference in Edinburgh.

Delegates are advised that they should arrange to bring lunch with them as there are no facilities for buying lunches at the Crannog Centre. Lunches can be bought at various shops in and around the Archaeology building in Edinburgh at which the conference will be held. However, please remember that these shops may not all be open on Sunday so you are advised to buy anything that is needed on Saturday.

The Scottish Crannog Centre has a small museum which provides information on the excavation of the site at Oakbank. The centre also boasts a full reconstruction of a crannog based on the results of that excavation as well as an activity area where various crafts and skills associated with the crannog excavations are demonstrated. This is an opportunity for delegates to visit this unique site and to engage in discussions with the people who are involved in presenting this aspect of archaeology to the general public. Further information about the centre can be obtained from the Scottish Crannog Centre website at:  http:/www.crannog.co.uk/
