5.15pm, Tuesday, 23 February 2010
David Hume Lecture Theatre B
The Holocaust occurred in an age of genocide and ethnic cleansing. Recent scholarship has shown the extent to which the murder of the Jews was related to other Nazi policies of mass murder, yet, this lecture suggests, we need to look wider still. It places the Holocaust into the context of a European continent in the turmoil of modernisation, industrialisation, and conflict. It asks how Nazi policy towards the Jews was influenced by broader trends in continental history, and shows how the Holocaust was shaped by German interaction with other states.
All colleagues and students are warmly invited to Professor Donald Bloxham's inaugural lecture.
The lecture will be followed by a reception, to which everyone is invited to attend. In the interests of planning for numbers, please notify Muriel King <Muriel.King@ed.ac.uk> if you are interested in attending.
