Apologies: Dr Anna Groundwater, Dr Wendy Ugolini, Dr Jeremy Crang, Dr Katrina Navickas. 1. The first issue raised by Messrs Davidson-Richards and Wright was that some of the books on essay reading lists were not available at all in the library. They identified a question to which this was relevant and Dr Pentland agreed to investigate. 2. Dr Pentland raised the issue of placing reading on e-reserve in line with recent advice from the school librarian. There was a discussion about the advantages and disadvantages of this. Messrs Davidson-Richards and Wright thought this would be of most use in taking pressure off print copies of reading before essay deadlines. 3. Messrs Davidson-Richards and Wright raised difficulties in using the library services and catalogues. There was discussion about how and when library ‘training’ could best be undertaken and it was suggested that generic guidance on finding different types of publication could be included in the course booklet. It was also suggested that there might be links to this kind of information from WebCT. 4. There was some discussion about how British History 1 might utilise WebCT more effectively as a means of both communication with the students enrolled and as a platform for the provision of sources, readings etc. 5. Dr Pentland asked whether Student Reps felt there was any appetite for different types of assessment on the course. Mrs Dumas raised the issue of whether we ought to look at devising means of assessing the tutorial contribution of students. Student Reps were encouraged to canvas opinion on this ahead of the next meeting. 6.
