Introduction

The School of History, Classics and Archaeology offers many opportunities for you to take part in discussions about courses and programmes: through student representatives on School committees, at staff/student liaison committees, at the School Forum each semester, and via course or School questionnaires.

As well as these opportunities for formal participation, please do take advantage of more informal opportunities for raising any concerns or suggestions you might have with your Director of Studies or Course Organiser.

School Committees with Student Participation

School-wide Staff-Student Liaison

The School-wide Staff-Student Liaison Committee was established in 2009/10.

Membership includes student and staff representatives from each of the School's Subject Areas, as well as the School's EUSA reps, reps from each of the student societies, and staff reps from the Undergraduate Studies Committee.

This committee meets each semester and considers issues of interest to both our students and staff which are wider/broader than those relating only to a course or a programme. These might relate to School or University provision, services or facilities and could be raised by students or staff.

School Undergraduate Studies Committee

This Committee meets twice a semester and its remit includes the implementation of college strategy in course and curriculum development, and the consideration of cross-School or College curriculum or undergraduate student-related issues.

Further details of this committee, including agendas, minutes and related papers, are on the School's website:

UG Studies Committee

School Forum

The School Forum is held each semester and provides the opportunity for two-way discussion, communication and dissemination of information on all matters and plans relating to teaching, research and administration in the School.

Responding to Student Feedback

Throughout your studies you will be given many opportunities to offer your feedback on our courses and programmes.

The School's or subject area's response to your feedback will be available to you in the following ways:

National Student Survey

This is an annual survey of final year students at UK universities. It is administered by Ipsos-Mori, an independent market research company, on behalf of the UK's higher education funding bodies.

This year's final-year students will be invited to participate in the 2012 National Student Survey from January 2012 and the School would like to encourage as many of our students to do so as possible. We value your feedback very much.

You can complete the 2012 National Student Survey at www.thestudentsurvey.com

Course/Programme Issues

Minutes of Staff/Student Liaison meetings should tell you how the School and/or subject area will respond to your feedback.

At the start of each new course, you should be informed in what ways previous student feedback has contributed to the development of the course.

School Issues

Your student representatives can bring your issues to the School-wide Staff-Student Liaison Committee or to other School Committees or Groups, such as the Undergraduate Studies Committee or the School Forum.
